a lot of water has flown under the bridge since the horrific blasts that have rocked Bombay a fortnight ago. a few arrests, candlelight vigils, many prayers, donations, petitions to the PM, impassioned articles by columnists, movie stars hailing the SPIRIT of mumbai, a lot of grandstanding by our politicians saying we will nOT COW DOWN.. beautiful stuff, really...
but the ground realities are in stark contrast to what our authorities would like us to believe to travel even now in a first class compartment and see the unspoken horror and anxiety writ on the faces of thousands of commuters as they try to pick up the the pieces of their lives and carry on living their lives in this city.
some more arrests will be made to satiate the anger of those who cry retribution, some more faces will be paraded in front of the TV cameras to demonstrate the so-called effectiveness of the state machinery and then....
and then.. the city will again settle in a stupor to be rocked again by the next disaster.. pick your bets folks.. what will it be this time.. lets see.. today's lucky draw includes a riot, a blast or surprise surprise A flood...
we need to change ourselves.. shake ourselves from this slumber.. change the creaky infrastructure.. demand a concept called accountability from our politicians and bureaucrats.. or we should award ourselves medals for being the most cowardly humans to walk on this planet.. even animals fight back when backed into a corner...
